For 2005, Reining Alberta is pleased to announce that the long-awaited Youth Development Program has arrived!
.
The Youth Committee, consisting of J.P. Forget, Marion Popkins and Dan Duckering, has worked hard to develop a program that would be an equal opportunity for youth across the entire province. The program as outlined will be implemented this year, and revised as necessary on an annual basis.

The intent of the Youth Development Program is to provide our youth with a "hand-up" versus a simple "hand-out". It is designed not only to provide ongoing education within the sport of reining, but to also develop a sense of pride in accomplishment and helping others. This program will bring out the leader qualities in our youth as they learn to work to help and support other people, as well as themselves.

This Program will make funds available to all youth in the province, towards their continuing education within the sport of reining. The Reining Alberta Youth Development program will allow youth to earn the ability to pay their way to any clinics, lessons, or other equine educational events, based on their own involvement and volunteer efforts within the sport. All youth in this program will have equal opportunity to earn the money that will develop them to the next level.

How
This program is based on a simple point system. Throughout the year as our youth compete, participate and volunteer at various reinings, they will accumulate points that when submitted to the Youth Committee, will entitle them to the funds available. Each youth will be responsible for earning, recording and submitting their own points to the Youth Committee. For every 100 points accumulated, Reining Alberta will make available $100 towards continuing education for that youth. That money can either be paid out to the youth as a reimbursement, or an application can be made to have Reining Alberta pay direct.

The sky is the limit! The funds are available to all youth in the level that they are willing to work towards! The Top 5 point earners of the year will also earn a jacket for their outstanding efforts and leadership.

Any event (clinic, seminar, conference or show), that includes reining as a part of the event, regardless of affiliation or locations, will be recognized in the program. The youth will be given a form that is to be signed by the show secretary or event coordinator for verification.

The points will be rewarded as follows:
  • Competing - 2 points/class - maximum 6 points/show
  • Volunteering (shows) - 5 points/day
  • Volunteering (events) - 5 points/event
  • Participation (events) - 6 points/event
