Will agriculture be able to meet the challenge of feeding 9.6 billion people by 2050? Canada’s Agriculture Day is February 12, and the University of Alberta Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, along with Red Deer College and Olds College are teaming up to host a free public forum on agriculture.

Celebrating the 2050 Challenge will look at the changing face of farming, how technologies are revolutionizing agriculture and how society, being ever more disconnected from food production, will influence the tools, such as genetic engineering, farmers use as they work to ensure global food security.

The forum will take place in both Red Deer and Edmonton. Speakers include agrologist Robert Saik and Dr. David Zaruk from Belgium who will discuss how technology is impacting agriculture and how society's perception of food production is creating real challenges on the farm.

Register for the Edmonton Forum taking place Tuesday, February 12, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Register for the Red Deer Forum taking place Tuesday, February 12, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
