Are you a full-time farmer thinking about hiring a student for summer employment? Now is the time to apply for Alberta Agriculture and Forestry’s Summer Farm Employment Program.

This program gives Alberta’s youth the opportunity to gain farm work experience and provides wage support to farmers. Successful applicants will receive a maximum grant of $500 per month for July and August. This grant will be paid to the employer.

Employers must own or rent a farming operation in Alberta and work must be directly related to the farming operation. Daily supervision must be provided. The employer must provide safe working conditions and ensure their employee receives appropriate safety training.

Employees must be residents of Alberta, and be between 16 and 24 years of age as of July 1, 2019. They must not be working full-time anywhere else or attending school while participating in this program.

Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be accepted until all program funds are committed or May 31, 2019 - whichever comes first. Any applications received after this date will not be processed unless funding is available.

Find applications forms and more information for the Summer Farm Employment Program online, or by calling The Alberta Ag-Info Centre at 310-FARM (3276).

Farm operations that are a registered business may also consider the Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP).The deadline to apply is February 8, 2019.
