Alberta producers are receiving inquiries relating to the purchase of hay for cattle in American states affected by wildfires. Many are wanting to assist, but want to ensure the requests are legitimate. Several years ago several Albertan farmers were affected by fraud when responding to requests for hay from the United States.

The FAO recommends approaching these types of private agreements with caution and avoiding GoFundMe funding campaigns. Any Albertan farmers who are interested in helping support farmers impacted by wildfire in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas or Colorado can do through centralized organizations such as local cattlemen’s groups. A complete listing of how to send help is available on the Beef USA website.
