Beginning his life in Alberta as a homesteader, Mr. Johnston became the first herdsman at the University of Alberta Farm. In 1932, his untiring efforts to improve the quality of Alberta's livestock through the Farm's herd led to his appointment as superintendent of the University Farm. One measure of the quality of his work was a collection of 20 breed and reserve championships at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto and the Chicago Livestock Exhibition.
