In 2015-2016, the Economics and Competitiveness Branch in collaboration with the Food and Bio-Processing Branch of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) conducted a cost of production study for industrial hemp seed grown in Alberta. The project was funded by Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.

The report provides the 2015 estimated cost of production benchmarks for dryland and irrigated hemp seed grown in Alberta. It is of significance to industrial hemp producers, researchers, government, biomaterials and food processing as well as manufacturing companies that rely on this information for business decisions.
